Variation Grid – Whole Numbers and Decimals

This structured variation grid aims to let learners see the connections between all of the calculations which are essentially multiplications of 4 and 5.   There is variation horizontally and vertically.  Too often learners see multiplication of whole numbers by multiples of 10 as being a discrete concept to multiplication of decimals by multiples of 10.  This task aims to address that and illustrate the “sameness”.  The two columns on the far right intentionally have the same solution to illustrate the commutative property.
