Horizontal Translations


This task is made up of a series of sheets.  It was designed to serve two purposes.   Firstly, it is about horizontal translations.  It is intended as a device with which to foster an awareness of why functions behave as they do when .  However, another key aim of this task was for pupils to enhance their understanding of functions and function notation.  In a recent conversation with John Mason he suggested to me that some pupils don’t appreciate that any point on a function is a specific instance of (x, f(x)).
