I put this together for a class working at First Level (KS1) at the start of secondary. We are working on developing place value. I’ve been using lots of interventions for individual pupils with Dienes materials and building up the conceptual understanding. This task has 6 pages, 3 are shown above. They are in order of challenge. (I’ve tested it twice to make sure the ordering is correct).

This is one of these situations where the aesthetic of the task mattered. The pupils really enjoyed doing it, as it was laid out a bit differently from a normal worksheet. For me, I got lots of information from them that I could use to diagnose difficulties and support.
