




This task sequence is designed to take pupils through early acquisition of the idea of collecting terms, using the metaphor of zero pairs (Addition of the additive inverse). Prior work, using this approach on integers, is essential. There are other tasks on this site which do this. I have chosen to use algebra discs, rather than algebra tiles. These more closely resemble the informal sketches that pupils will make in their working on such questions.
