Composite Functions

This task was written to aid my Higher class in tackling some challenging composite function questions. The second page really ramps up the challenge with some tricky algebra. I’ve also extended to triple nested functions, beyond the scope of the course, as a challenge for those who make quick progress.

The inclusion of the line “think about he layout of the outside function” is designed as a prompt, which correlates with what we’ve spoken about in class. I had considered using backwards fading in this task but decided against it as there are only a small number of steps and the class have already got a fairly good handle on the basics of composite functions. Maybe the final could have split this into two parts – eliminate the ‘messy denominator’ and ‘finalise tidying’.
